SDG11: Sustainable cities and communities
General objective: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Biodiversity, climate change, work stress, mental health, educational and work performance and healthcare costs. These are all current topics and matters in which greenery can contribute to solving or reducing problems.
What is Royal FloraHolland doing to achieve this goal?
Greenery positively influences our living and work climate. We know this intuitively, but this is also proven scientifically in our program The Green Agenda. And we investigate what is not yet known for certain. For this, we work with the Green City foundation.
What does the Green Agenda do?
Green is more than beautiful! It is not a luxury, but a precondition for a healthy life, now and in the future.
The Green Agenda concretizes the available knowledge about the functional value of greenery and helps to translate this into innovative applications. This is done both nationally as well as internationally, providing input for activities that contribute to an improved living environment.
The Green Agenda program focuses on everyone who has an influence on the greenery in our environment. We work on:
- Greenery in buildings (residences, offices, companies and schools)
- Greenery around, on and next to buildings
- Greenery in urban areas
This includes ornamental plants or flowers: trees, bushes, garden plants, flower bulbs and house plants. This also includes natural vegetation in cities and towns.
The Green City foundation
The Green City foundation was created because of the need to increase awareness about the added value of greenery. Three prominent organizations from the green sector are represented in the board of The Green City (Royal Anthos, LTO Vakgroep Bomen, Vaste Planten and Zomerbloemen and Royal FloraHolland).
The Green City expresses the pursuit of a more attractive, climate-resistant and healthier living environment. It is our ambition to encourage 'greener thinking' through education, highlighting successful practical examples and sharing new scientific insights.
The Green City regularly publishes new and current information for this purpose.
The Green Agenda's efforts concretely contribute to the gaining of current scientific knowledge about the functional values of greenery. This provides knowledge, networks and content for the benefit of activities that contribute to an improved living environment.
